Mentoring
One-to-one help with two things I know well: running a life with too much on, and building software that lasts.
Productivity mentoring
You have more commitments than hours. A demanding job, a side business, a course, children. Every productivity app promised calm; you got another inbox.
I help people build one system for everything they care about, and the habit to keep using it. It suits parents, students, professionals and founders alike. We focus on the system, not the app: it should work in any tool, or on paper.
- Life management. Goals, projects and tasks across work, family, health and money, in one system. Daily work then serves long-term outcomes.
- Weekly and daily rituals. A 15-minute weekly plan and a daily note you will actually keep.
- Priorities under pressure. Deciding what to drop when work, family and ambitions compete for the same evening.
- Long projects alongside a job. A degree, a side business or a book, delivered without burning out.
- Note-taking. A place for ideas, references and lessons, kept apart from your to-do list so neither gets buried.
- Systems, not apps. Principles that survive a change of tool. 3Monads is optional.
Software engineering mentoring
For engineers who want to grow faster than their current job allows: from junior to senior, from permanent to contractor, or into functional programming.
- Functional programming. Scala and Haskell, taught through real code. See Hello, Haskell.
- AI-assisted development. Using Claude Code and agents without lowering quality. See How AI is misused in software teams and Using deferred execution to tame AI agents.
- System design. Event-driven systems and stream processing. See The world is event-driven.
- Career moves. Your first job, your first lead role, or going independent. See How to become a software developer and 10 years of Codeily.
Why listen to me
I have worked as a software engineer for over a decade, most of it as a contractor through my own consultancy. Changing clients often meant new codebases, new teams and new management styles. I worked with Scrum, Kanban, waterfall in disguise, and every hybrid in between. I saw what makes teams deliver and what only produces meetings.
I then applied the same discipline to my own life. I completed three master’s degrees (Computer Science, an MBA and Data Science) while working. I run two businesses, one in software consulting and one in asset management. I am building a third, 3Monads, a planning app born from my own system. I also have three kids.
None of this needed heroic hours. It needed a system, reviewed every week, and the willingness to drop what no longer matters.
How it works
- Intro call (free, 30 minutes). We talk about where you are and what you want to change. If I cannot help, I will say so.
- Working session. We build your planning system, or work through your code, architecture or career plan.
- Follow-ups. Regular check-ins to review what works, remove what does not, and keep momentum.
